Hiya Toys 3.75" Aliens APC Impressions

As our SDCC coverage wraps up, we have a brief note from Darth_Anton regarding the Hiya Toys Aliens APC prototype, and his meeting with the company representatives. Check out our SDCC Hiya Toys Image Galleries, and read on for Ant's impressions on this growing toy line!

Hiya Toys Aliens: Colonial Marines APC (Armored Personnel Carrier) 3.75 inch scale.

I was literally stunned when I first laid eyes on this thing. At first glance, you think you’re looking at a scale model from the 1986 James Cameron film, Aliens (upon which the video game is based.) The detail is that exquisite. Seriously. Just look at the photo’s! Weathering, hand grips, rivets, if you could see it in a reference photo, it’s on this APC. And the aesthetic beauty of this thing doesn’t stop there; every part that can move, moves. The Squad Leader’s chair slides along the Tactical Operations Center, harness restraints pull down to secure your marines during atmospheric entry, wheels turn, doors open. Not only do both the front and rear cannons pivot, the rear Boyars PARS-150 plasma cannon slides down the back allowing the APC to penetrate low clearance situations. The roof, of course, is removable so you can seat up to fifteen Marines and special operations personnel.

But wait, there are only three marines available! Not to worry. Before year’s end, the fine folks at Hiya promise three additional Marines. The only question is, which Colonial Marines will make the cut?

What the photo’s can’t show you is the excitement of Angelo Cheng and Wang Yonghai of Hiya who were on hand to show off their labor of love and promote the Colonial Marines line in general. You immediately feel their pride and enthusiasm for their product.

Retail price has not been set. However, we can firmly expect a minimum $200 price point.

Of course, when the Hiya guys asked me if anything was missing from the APC that I’d like to see, I couldn’t remotely make any suggestions because, in my opinion, they knocked this out of the park. However, when asked what I’d like to see from the line in general, beyond immortalizing every member of the ill-fated movie Sulaco crew (which is impractical at this point due to rights issues,) two words came to mind -- Drop Ship.

The prototype was a hit with multiple outlets covering SDCC, and it's sounding like the Hiya group is ambitiously looking to expand their 3.75" Aliens: Colonial Marines line. They've put the Aliens out, and now the Marines and Power Loader are shipping currently from online retailers. You can put orders in at our sponsor, Entertainment Earth, who are importing them via Previews.

In the meantime, just enjoy the prototype and hope we get to purchase that sooner rather than later!
